I am very excited to bring some new games to the club through this order. This order also fills out our collection by adding some titles we already have. This will allow more players and the ability to rent some of these games now that we have multiple copies. The games have all been selected for a reason. A few games fit nicely into a game club night. Some have been chosen for their topics that they cover. We can use them here in school to help students get a feel for what is being studied. Others have been chosen for their game mechanics. These new mechanics will keep you game club members thinking for along time. Learning new and exciting strategies as you play these games over and over to master them is quite fun. I know it is close to the end of the year and I hope many of you will continue to grow in your skills though the next few years of Middle school. Keep coming to the clubs & the camps.

I hope that you all participate in the Friday Night Races. It should be a good time. We have two races going on at the same time. A formula D race, which uses custom built race cars to race around the track. Then then there is the mighty Snow Tails. This is the snowy world of the Arctic Circle, where brave sledders race in a test of skill and endurance. Action is fast and furious and not all sleds will make it to the finish. Huskies only have one setting and that is full speed! Hang on to your furs, the reins,  your sled and anything else you can get hold of.

If these games sound like it would appeal to you then you should take the the tracks this Friday. The winners will receive prize money in the form of gold doubloons. Only those who are brave enough have a chance to win, only those skilled enough will win!

One of the biggest feature upgrades that was made was with all the community features. You now can do more with your groups, forums, activities as well as post on the “wall” of other members. Another new and exciting feature is status updates. You now can go to your profile and post a short statement about what you are thinking. I hope that these features, as well as our good articles, keep you coming back for more.

With this new site I need some volenteers to write some articles, do some video reviews, and make some video messages. If this interests you, please come and discuss this with me to find a topic that works.

I thought I would share with you a order I placed today to get some more games for our club!

I picked up three copies of Perikles which sounds like a great game. It is a mix of politics & military. Read what is printed on that back of the box.

“Together the Greek City States had defeated the greatest power in the world, the Persians. Now, though, pride and envy have led them to fight amongst themselves in what we know today as the Peloponnesian War.

Each player represents a powerful Greek family with political influence spread across the six major city states of ancient Greece. Players strive to become leaders of these cities, thus taking control of their military forces. With these forces players will aim to win glory on the battlefield.”

Perikles, 3-5 player, 120 minutes

Next one I ordered was Hellas. I ordered only one copy to try it out. If it goes well I would like to pick up a few more. Here is what it says on the back of the box:

“In the land of ancient Greece, called Hellas, the people waged power struggles for control of the many valuable islands. The combatants faced each other over land and across the seas. In these battles with sail and sword, the combatants venture forth to discover new islands to fight over. To aid them in their battles, the combatants often seek the favor of the Gods.”

Hellas, 2-2 player, 60 minutes

The next order I picked up was for a crazy game called Eketorp. You are a band of vikings who are battling each other for supplies to build the best castle. The game is unique and a good time. I have played this one already and knew it to be refreshingly different.

The next game I picked up cause it sounded cool and tactical. It is called Feudo. This is a game that is based in middevil Europe. Players are trying to take control of land and castles. Much like chess they all have similar pieces and when one dies it is out of the game for good. Here is what the back of the box says:

“In the year 1265 A.D., England’s most powerful Barons clashed to contend the precious lands of the manor of Evesham. The outcome of this battle depends on your strategy. Will you make use of the charm of your Milady or will you go to the Convent? No one knows what moves you will make. Be careful of the fog and keep away from the plague. Play your shillings and strike the enemy where he least expects it. But if you become the strongest Baron, King Henry III will also join the struggle, and winning will be even harder.”

Feudo, 2-4 players, 90 minutes

The last game I picked up was El Grande. This is a great game that we already have one copy of. I have started to teach a few people the game and it has been going really well. They seemed to really enjoy the game so I thought I would order another one. I still would like to pick up one or two more but all in due time. For those who have not played this one yet here is the description from the back of the box:

“In this award-winning game, players take on the roles of Grandes in medieval Spain. The king’s power is flagging, and these powerful lords are vying for control of the various provinces. To that end, you draft caballeros (knights) into your court and subsequently move them onto the board to help seize control of provinces. After every third turn, the regions are scored, and after the ninth turn, the Grande with the most points is deemed the winner.”

I am looking forward to teaching these games in future game clubs. There are so many more games to learn and I am looking for  those who are my dedicated soldiers who are ready to learn & have fun!

I am very excited to report that we will be starting a new game of online werewolf, albeit a different theme. This is called Corporate Take Over. The idea of the game is similar to Werewolf. Your team is trying to be the last one standing. It will be broken down into a day and night phase, however no one person will have the night time roles. In this exciting Online werewolf you will be on one of the bank teams. There will be three teams of four. Each person will get $100 to start with and they will be spending it in the night auctions. The “role” of the werewolf will be bid on by people and they will then spend the money to kill someone on another team (hopefully). In the day time your money will be used (but not spent) to determine how strong your vote is. If you have 100 dollars your vote is worth 100, but if you have spent some on night roles, and won the bid, you will have a less powerful vote.

Head Hunter: Each team will start the game with one Head Hunter. This person is like the seer in werewolf. They are able to see who works for who. Each night they will tell me who they want to see and I will reveal which bank they work for.

Night Roles & Tools (up for bidding)

Assassin: (werewolf) Each night that this role is won, the winner will get to select someone to kill. Choose wisely, as you will not know who is on which team.

Hacker: Each night that this role is won, the winner will get to select someone to steal 25% of their money from their account by hacking into their personal account.

Director of HR – Each night that this role is won, the winner, will get to select someone and find out if they work for the same bank.

Federal Trade Commission Officer: Each night that this role is won, the winner, will get to select someone and freeze his or her accounts for an entire day (which means no votes during the day) ‘

Each game we play will add to your driving career total. After the 10th race the winner will be announced. You don’t have to participate in all the races though that will hurt your total chances of winning. There will be some Gold prizes in each of the races as well as a overall prize. You can spend some of your Gold to upgrade your cars. There will be different entry fees per race. These will be low costs that almost anyone can afford.

You can sponsor one car that is not yours if you wish. You will be the primary owner and you will make 75% of the money that the car makes. You will have to pay the entry fees as well as the repairs.
